As you already know there are a lot of Kawaii styles. Today I thought of talking a bit about one in particular:
The story about how the Lolita style was born is not very clear, but it’s safe to say that it originated from a profound desire of the women of Japan to break the traditions and make a statement about freedom and feminism. This culture was known for the limited role of women in society. They were supposed to be good wives and that’s it.
The girls that started this trend had other ideas about their lives and began dressing however they wanted. This fashion statement found it’s home at Harajuku.
The Lolita style is a combination of various looks. It merges high-class garments from past centuries, mainly from Rococo and Victorian times, with some childish pieces.
There is no age for this trend, but it’s predominantly worn by girls between 15 and 35 years old.
But there is not just one type of Lolita, actually, there are several. Here I’ll write about some of them:
Is like a beginner Lolita. They wear skirts and beautiful socks. It’s not much but it’s a start, perfect for anyone that wants to dive into this style.
Kind of punk, kind of rococo, this type of Lolita style is kind of hard to achieve and differentiate. It’s often mistaken with regular punk, but a true Lolita could tell it’s different.
It’s the Lolita version of a sailor. They use the same uniform as an old sailor would do, but styling it a little. And of course wearing skirts or dresses. Kind of like Sailor Moon remember?
This one is for the girls who love being princesses. This type of Lolita would often wear dreamy dresses and even tiaras. They are very elegant and polish.
This one is very popular among Lolitas. Like the princes’s ones, these Lolitas are very delicate, looking to resemble porcelain dolls. They are very shy and sweet, always with a smile on their faces. You will recognize them because they love pastel color clothing.
The total opposite of the two previous Lolitas. This style is not that common and it’s not easy to find the adequate outfits, that’s why most of these Lolita make their own clothes. They love wearing black, and it kind of resembles the gothic culture known in USA and Europe.
Their inspiration comes from the traditional Japanese clothes. They style kimonos and yukatas modifying them to create the ultimate fashion statement.
There are a lot more Lolita styles, but these ones were my favorite kind and frankly the ones I think are easier to attain. I like very much the punk and sailor Lolitas, which one do you like the best?
